Meet Our Donors
We thank all our planned-gift donors for their generous support. Here are some of their stories.
+Richard ’50 and Lorraine Falkenberg
Rich Falkenberg ’50 of Peoria, AZ died on November 22, 2018; his wife +Lorraine died before him. They “retired” to Payson, AZ where they developed a ranch and became avid llama ranchers. They loved to show and breed llamas, and especially enjoyed teaching children and adults about llamas, bringing their animals to county and state fairs, schools, 4H Clubs, hospices, and assisted-living centers. Rich and Lorraine attended many of the Arizona Regional Reunions. He was always decked-out in Native American silver jewelry. At his death, they bequeathed to the Academy a gift of $55,641, which was placed in the general operations fund.
+William Kretzer, Jr. ’58
Bill Kretzer, Jr. ’58 of Tinley Park, IL died on December 21, 2022; his wife, +Maureen, preceded him in death. Bill owned a successful “tool and die” company in Tinley Park, begun by his father.
At the request of his sons, Bill’s bequest of $10,000 was added to an existing JROTC Fund to enhance Marmion’s JROTC program.
+LT Terrence P. O'Boyle, USA —65
Terry O'Boyle, a 1965 Resident Student graduate from Gary, IN, was the Cadet Battalion Commander of the Marmion Butterfield Road Campus JROTC Battalion his senior year. Terry received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), from which he graduated in 1969 and was commissioned a 2LT in the U.S. Army. He was then assigned to duty in Vietnam, receiving a promotion to 1LT. He was killed-in-action on November 8, 1970.
Dr. Steve Gonczy '65, in memory of his friend, classmate, and roommate at Marmion, established the LT Terrence P. O'Boyle, USA —65 Memorial Financial Aid Fund in Fall 2021 with his own generous gift. He invites his and Terry's resident student classmates to also make generous gifts to this Fund which will help current Marmion students with need-based grants. The goal is to use only the annual interest earned so that it can be a "perpetual Fund" in Terry's memory.
